Santa Fe Right-of-Way now open....

The fence blocking the Santa Fe Right-of-Way just north of Lincoln was opened March 8 by the Berkeley Parks Department in a six-month trial. Path Wanderers can walk or bicycle this 1880s railroad grade (now the BART right-of-way in Albany and El Cerrito) from University Avenue in Berkeley all the way to the El Cerrito-Richmond border, about 5 miles. Try it out! You'll find parks, community gardens, public art, and restored creeks along the level trail.  Berkeley Path Wanderers, working with neighbors, requested the opening. But other neighbors were fearful  -- hence the six-month trial. Please use this route, and tell us about any problems that you see.

Join us on May 19 for a level, 5-mile walk to discover art, gardens, creeks, and play areas along this historic rail route, from University Ave north to the lovely Baxter Creek restoration at the Richmond border (details).
