Saturday, September 21, 2024 offered a beautiful “Second Summer” day as about 40 people gathered to attend the annual meeting of the Berkeley Path Wanderers Association at Live Oak Park. |

WE’RE CURRENTLY SEEKING A NEW (CO-) WALKS COORDINATOR
|

BPWA has a new opening on its board for a (Co-) Walks Coordinator. We’re seeking someone to schedule walks, communicate with walk leaders, and help walk leaders in designing and planning the walks. You will be assisting one other Walks Coordinator on the board, so no prior experience is necessary. If you have such skills, come join our lively organization to make a difference for Berkeley’s paths! Email info@berkeleypaths.org for more information.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, Berkeley Path Wanderers Association is going strong—so far this year, we’ve begun work on new handrails for seven paths! Among the ways we use your donations to directly improve paths is by purchasing and installing handrails, which cost $15,000 to $25,000 per path.
|
|
|
Fully 100% of your tax-deductible donation will be used to maintain and improve Berkeley’s paths. If you’ve donated in the past few years, you’ll receive a letter in the mail, or you can always donate online at www.berkeleypaths.org/donate. Donors of $250 or more are eligible to receive a limited-edition poster by Berkeley artist David Lance Goines, (posters will be provided on request). Supplies are dwindling — get yours now! |

When: Saturday, November 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Leader: Tamara Gurin Distance: 6 miles, 1000’ elevation gain Start/end: Hearst & Euclid at North Gate Accessibility: Dogs and children are welcome. This route requires an above-average level of fitness and offers no public restrooms. This fast-paced, strenuous hike will follow the steep stairways and trails to the viewpoint on Fire Trail, where we’ll stop to enjoy the sunset before heading back. Distance: 6 miles
Elevation:1200 ft
Start/end: 540 Spruce Street, Berkeley, CA 94707
Accessibility: Dogs are not permitted on the trails we will be using in Tilden. The route is not accessible for wheelchair use. The EBRPD has replaced the bridge on Memory Trail between Wildcat Canyon Rd. and Cañon Dr. This trail allows safe pedestrian access to the Nature Area in Tilden. We will walk up to the trailhead on Wildcat, follow five miles in Tilden taking various trails up to Wildcat Peak and a different route back to Memory Trail. READ MORE |

When: November 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Leader: Tamara Gurin Distance: 8 miles, 1,400’ elevation gain Start/end: Berkeley Rose Garden, 1200 Euclid Avenue Accessibility: Water is available at Lake Anza and Lone Oak Trailhead. Dogs and children are always welcome. This route requires above average level of fitness. This strenuous, fast-paced hike will take us from the Rose Garden to Lone Oak Trailhead in Tilden Park, including stairways to Grizzly Peak Blvd, Lake Anza, and Curran and Meadow Canyon Trails with a stop for the view at Inspiration Point. PATH MAINTENANCE WORK PARTIES

Join us for a path maintenance work party!Friday, November 8, 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, November 17, 10 a.m. to noon Do you enjoy working with your hands and seeing tangible results of your efforts? Join us to clean up Berkeley’s paths, work that’s mostly weeding, sweeping, raking, and clipping. We will have gloves and tools available, but feel free to bring your own. Please also bring your own water, as we won't be offering water or refreshments.
