Join us for a path maintenance work party!

Do you enjoy working with your hands and seeing tangible results of your efforts? Join us to clean up Berkeley’s paths, work that’s mostly weeding, sweeping, raking, and clipping. We will have gloves and tools available, but feel free to bring your own. Please also bring your own water, as we won't be offering water or refreshments. Distance: 3 to 4 miles
Start/end: Dorothy Bolte Park, Berkeley
Accessibility: Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome.

Welcome the new year with a walk along the Berkeley/Kensington border including Ye Olde School Path with its views of Wildcat Canyon. We’ll all start together but will separate into a moderate-paced group and a group that will travel a more vigorous route that’s somewhat longer with more elevation gain. West Berkeley, Emeryville, and Aquatic Park

When: Saturday, January 10, from 9 a.m. to noon
Leader: Sandy Friedland
Distance/elevation gain: 4.75 miles, flat
Start/end: 2701 Eighth Street, Berkeley
Accessibility: One crossing of railroad tracks and a short section of an uneven dirt path; restrooms at the start and in Emeryville about a mile later. No dogs, please.

From Berkeley’s largest mural to a tiny handprint in Emeryville, this walk is full of surprises! In addition to lots of public art, we’ll pass chic new architecture, whimsical utility boxes, artist co-ops, some fascinating light industry, and even a path where you’ll be counted as a pedestrian. We’ll walk along Aquatic Park and see the many recent improvements nearby. Read more

Evening Walk Through the Cal Campus

When: Friday, January 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Leader: Alina Constantinescu
Start/end: Corner of Center and Oxford Streets, Berkeley, by the Arnaldo Pomodoro globe sculpture
Distance/elevation gain: 3.5 miles, 200 feet
Accessibility: Sidewalks and stairs; well-behaved dogs on leash welcomed; no public restrooms

On this evening stroll through the beautiful Cal campus, we'll pass familiar spots like the Campanile and Sather Gate, but also less-traveled gardens, creek crossings, redwood groves, and architectural gems. In the event of rain, this walk will be postponed to the following Friday, January 30. Read more
