Just south of Latham Lane in North Berkeley you’ll find Ina Coolbrith Path, which connects Miller Avenue and Grizzly Peak Blvd. If you’ve ever wondered about its namesake, the path commemorates a remarkable woman who figured prominently in the state’s literary history. READ MORE |

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, Berkeley Path Wanderers Association is going strong—so far this year, we’ve begun work on new handrails for seven paths! Among the ways we use your donations to directly improve paths is by purchasing and installing handrails, which cost $15,000 to $25,000 per path.

Fully 100% of your tax-deductible donation will be used to maintain and improve Berkeley’s paths. If you’ve donated in the past few years, you’ll receive a letter in the mail, or you can always donate online at www.berkeleypaths.org/donate. Donors of $250 or more are eligible to receive a limited-edition poster by Berkeley artist David Lance Goines, (posters will be provided on request). Supplies are dwindling — get yours now! |

When: Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Leader: Lynn Deregowski Distance: 3 miles Start/end: 1310 Glendale Ave., Berkeley Accessibility: Moderate level of fitness; the route includes staired pathways and stretches of uneven terrain. Join us for another tail-wagging edition of Pooches on the Paths, where we’ll sniff out some of Berkeley’s lesser-known parks and pathways. From larger spaces to tucked-away pocket parks, we’ll roam through the Northwest Berkeley and the Park Hills neighborhoods. Along the way, we’ll take in sweeping views and enjoy a few vibrant examples of residential art. READ MORE |

When: Saturday, November 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Leader: Tamara Gurin Distance: 6 miles, 1000’ elevation gain Start/end: Hearst & Euclid at North Gate Accessibility: Dogs and children are welcome. This route requires an above-average level of fitness and offers no public restrooms. This fast-paced, strenuous hike will follow the steep stairways and trails to the viewpoint on Fire Trail, where we’ll stop to enjoy the sunset before heading back. Bring extra layers, headlamps or flashlights, hiking poles, and water. READ MORE |

When: November 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Leader: Tamara Gurin Distance: 8 miles, 1,400’ elevation gain Start/end: Berkeley Rose Garden, 1200 Euclid Avenue Accessibility: Water is available at Lake Anza and Lone Oak Trailhead. Dogs and children are always welcome. This route requires above average level of fitness. This strenuous, fast-paced hike will take us from the Rose Garden to Lone Oak Trailhead in Tilden Park, including stairways to Grizzly Peak Blvd, Lake Anza, and Curran and Meadow Canyon Trails with a stop for the view at Inspiration Point. Bring extra layers, hiking poles, and water. There are public restrooms at Rose Garden, Lake Anza, and Lone Oak Trailhead. READ MORE |

PATH MAINTENANCE WORK PARTIES

Join us for a path maintenance work party!Saturday, October 5, 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, October 25, 10 a.m. to noon Do you enjoy working with your hands and seeing tangible results of your efforts? Join us to clean up Berkeley’s paths, work that’s mostly weeding, sweeping, raking, and clipping. We will have gloves and tools available, but feel free to bring your own. Please also bring your own water, as we won't be offering water or refreshments.
