Your help is vital in the continuation of our path building efforts. Many of the unfinished paths that we hope to complete are long and steep and will need surveys and many steps. Professional surveys cost between $1,500 and $3,000. Each wooden step that we install with rebar costs about $20.  A path with a fifty-foot rise requires one hundred steps. Handrails are the most expensive items on our wish list. The ones on newly completed John Muir Path cost over $15,000.

So even though our labor is free, thanks to our tireless volunteers, the materials we need to build and repair paths require significant expenditures. Our dues and proceeds from the sale of our maps and other merchandise help, but we still rely on the generosity of our members to continue to complete more paths on city-owned land.
