Adding Handrails To Steep Paths: A BPWA Priority
Thanks to your generous donations, BPWA has been paying for handrails to be installed on some of the 35 or so new, wood-timber stairways that our volunteers have built since our organization began in 1998.

Path Pal Diane Resek: Mattocks and mimosas

We were recently awakened by loud “hoo-hoos” outside our bedroom window, and while it was clear that this was an owl, we couldn’t figure out where it was, and weren’t sure what kind of owl it was either (though it was so loud that my wife had to go sleep in another room).
Path-building team reroutes Wildcat Path

Four paths renamed for founders of Berkeley Path Wanderers Association
On January 19, the Berkeley City Council unanimously approved the renaming of four pedestrian paths in honor of the founders of Berkeley Path Wanderers Association (BPWA): Ruth Armstrong (Moskovitz), Jacque Ensign, Eleanor Hall Gibson, and Patricia DeVito.

Evacuation Using the Pathways
In an emergency such as a wildfire, you may need to evacuate on foot if streets are blocked or if driving out will take too long (check local traffic on Google maps). The City of Berkeley considers the pathways to be a key resource for evacuation; however, walking out requires forethought and preparation.
