Sunrise Hike in Tilden Park

  • Inspiration Point United States (map)

Leader: Alina Constantinescu
Distance: 4.4 miles
Elevation gain: 700 feet
Accessibility: Steep trails.  Sorry, no dogs allowed on this route.

Calling all the early risers for a sunrise hike in Tilden Park! The hike is 4.4-mile round-trip with 700ft elevation gain starting off IN THE DARK with the City lights twinkling in the distance. We will walk along the paved Nimitz Way trail for 2 miles and then head up a short but rather steep 0.25-mile fire road to Wildcat Peak. We will reach our sunrise spot at Wildcat Peak about an hour into the hike and have a coffee break while we wait to greet the day. You can bring your own thermos, or help yourself to hot water and instant coffee and tea we'll prepare for the group. Please dress for cold weather (40's).

Meet at the start of the paved Nimitz Way trail. Parking and restrooms are available at the trailhead. Bring warm layers (mornings are usually windy and cold at Wildcat Peak), water, breakfast/ snacks for yourself, and a headlamp/ flashlight or flashlight app.
